Fasting

Our church is entering a 21 day season of fasting following this model. I have committed to fasting from facebook for at least one week. As far as food, I am not fasting on a specific schedule as of yet.  Joshua and I went shopping for college supplies today and we went out to lunch with a gift card he got for graduation. I didn’t want to start fasting from food with us having opportunities to “break bread” together this week. At this point I’m fasting during the day and eating a meal with the family at dinner. I AM fasting from sweets. So….take away sweets and facebook and I realize how much I love both!

For our church, the point is to pray for the harvest God is preparing for us. For me personally, I am concentrating on just a couple of concerns weighing on my heart. I want to use the time to connect with God, listen to His voice and seek guidance and reassurance for my soul. Giving up something that distracts me from Him is helping me stop and talk to God every time I desire that online connection or that sweet food!
