Christmas Ornament Tradition

five bears from youngest to oldest on sleigh ornament with The Walden Bunch 2002
Several years ago (when I only had 2 children) I would cross stitch an ornament every year for the kids. When we adopted I began collecting an ornament every year for each child, to be given to them when they got married. At one of Rachel’s wedding showers I presented her with 10 ornaments I had gotten for her to use on her first “married” Christmas tree. She was tickled and I was excited to share my finds. Fortunately no one else was at the shower so the other kids still at home don’t know about my little tradition. It’s just our secret, okay?
I decided I wanted to make a small scrapbook album of the Christmas ornaments on our own tree that hold a special meaning to us. Haven’t done the album but I wanted to share a few of our ornaments. This year I added a few of my parents’ ornaments that I kept. I always try to write the date on the back somewhere so it will help me remember where they came from. Thanks for letting me share!

  1. We have bought each child a new ornament every year, that we give on the day we decorate the tree. Each child has a list of each ornament and what year it was given.

With 3 weddings this past year, and the 3 other Big Kids “on their own”, we handed off all 6 Big Kid Boxes of ornaments last year. Sadly … our tree looks pretty bare this year.

  2. This is such a sweet tradition to pass on to your children!
