Bless the Broken Road and Devotion from Marty's Musings

original source

I had a hard time coming up with a Simple Gift Sunday post this week.

Life is busy. Good busy but still busy.

Opportunities and decisions and new directions.

Yet, the words to “Bless the Broken Road” remind me that through every broken heart and unfulfilled dream the road leads back to God

If you’re in the midst of trials and suffering I hope you will remember God is there even in the darkness.

If you’ve lost hope remember God IS hope.

Listen and be blessed and know you are not alone

Selah – Bless The Broken Road

I set out on a narrow way
Many years ago
Hopin’ I would find true love
Along the broken road
But I got lost a time or two
I wiped my brow
Kept pushin’ through
I couldn’t see how every sign
Pointed straight to you

And every long lost dream
Led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart
They were just northern stars
Pointing me on my way
Into your lovin’ arms
This much I know is true
That God bless the broken road
And led me straight to you.

I think about the years I spent
Just passin’ through
I’d like to take the time I lost
And give it back to you
But you just smile and take my hand
You’ve been there you understand
It’s all part of His grander plan
That is coming true.

And every long lost dream
Led me to where you are
Others who broke my heart
They were just northern stars
Pointing me on my way
Into your lovin’ arms
This much I know is true
That God bless the broken road
And led me straight to you.

Now I’m just runnin’ home
Into your lovin’ arms
This much I know is true
That God bless the broken road
And led me straight to you.
Yes, God bless the broken road
And led me straight to you

  1. Terri J says:

One of my favorite songs, but I always listened to it as song by Rascal Flattts. To me it doesn’t matter who sang it first, as it is the meaning of the words that lift me up and help me face each new challeng and to maintain some hope in the midst of tirals and tirbulations – Even though I can not see him, and he hasn’t yet bandaged a boo-boo, als long I chose to let HIM be with me, I am never alone. Loved hearing that song, sung by her – she has a beautiful voice.

  2. One of our favorite songs at Longings End. We both traveled a very broken road before God brought us together. And every long lost dream lead us to where we are today…Thank you Jesus! And thank you, Marty, for posting this great song.

    • Thanks so much, Sheila, for commenting on my Simple Gift Sunday post. You seem to have an amazing God story as well, with your husband! We have an adoption story that has defined our life as well as offered ministry opportunities. Years of struggle and pain that God has redeemed in the lives of our children, both bio and adopted, as we still await God’s healing for our oldest adopted daughter. Thank you for taking the time to encourage!

  3. This was my wedding song, we just loved the meaning!

  5. I love this song, and I haven’t heard it in a long time! Thanks for sharing! Stopping by from SDG… Blessings!

  6. Great lyrics, and a powerful reminder that God is there even when we can’t see Him.

    • Thanks, Amelia, for taking the time to comment on my Sunday post. I have loved pairing songs with the truths of God each week and I hope you’ll come back and visit Marty’s Musings whenever you have time.

Visiting you from WLW link up! 🙂

  8. I’ve certainly traveled that “broken road,” Marty and am eternally grateful for God’s guidance and love along the way. Thanks for sharing/linking up this inspiring message and moving video at Wedded Wed. Always great to have you represented there, my friend.
