Instructions

Step 1. Purchase and prepare fabric.

Fabric runs 40-45” wide and can be cut in half depending on the width of your table. Length is determined by your table size. I used a cotton blend patterned fabric for the accent piece.

Step 2. Wash and dry both types of fabric.

Wash burlap on cool setting with liquid detergent on delicate. Take out of the washer immediately to prevent wrinkles. Dry on normal setting. After it’s dry take outside and shake the fuzz off of it. Also trim any ragged edges.

Patterned fabric should be washed separately to avoid attracting fuzz. Use same settings for both washing and drying.

Step 3. Cut burlap to size.

The easiest way to cut burlap is to make a small snip with scissors in the middle and use seam ripper to pull a thread until it gathers. Keep gently pulling the thread until it completely comes out of the burlap. This will give you a guide for cutting the fabric.

Step 4. Cut out patterned fabric.

It was easy to cut out the width of this fabric since lines were part of the pattern.

Step 5. Measure and mark height on the under side of fabric and cut out.

All of these measurements depend on the size of table you’re using for the table runner.

Step 6. Iron entire piece of burlap on high heat (using a spritz of water if necessary). Also iron patterned fabric.

Step 7. Cut off ragged edges and turn under 1” on both long sides of the burlap and iron on medium-high heat.

Step 8. Create a fringe on short edges of burlap.

This is done by pulling one strand completely out on the short edge of burlap. Continue removing strands until you reach desired length fringe.

Step 9.  Attach narrow iron on adhesive to sides of burlap and iron together to create a no sew seam.

If you’ve never used iron on adhesive make sure and read the instructions before this step. It’s the perfect product for a good no sew project but you don’t want to burn the fabric!

Step 10.  Add wide iron on adhesive to patterned fabric and peel off paper back.

Step 11. Attach patterned fabric to burlap by ironing.

Voila! A beautiful table without a sewing machine! Don’t you just love the fabric? It’s non-traditional but perfect for this tablescape.

How do I decorate a fall table?

I believe a beautiful table (whether it’s kitchen or dining room table) doesn’t have to be complicated. Google “fall table centerpieces” and see what inspiration catches your eye. Try using eucalyptus, wheat stems, votive candles and berries as a starter. Don’t forget seasonal fruit like apples, oranges, pears and even gourds make a delightful way to start your fall tablescape.

How do you make a fall centerpiece?

I find it helpful to choose a theme, whether it’s a color palette or a style like rustic charm. The centerpiece below uses a burlap runner and accent piece with bright stems and fall flowers in a wooden box for corralling everything.

I’m in love with plaid and use it in both fall and Christmas decor. For the table below I used a metal candle arrangement and candlesticks on burlap and checked fabric. To me burlap is the perfect fall fabric and it’s so easy to work with for those of us who don’t sew!

The grateful plates are my favorite dollar store ones and the chargers were a DIY project as well.

How do I decorate for fall with no money?

There are many ways to create a beautiful fall home with very little money. First of all, think of all the things from nature you can use such as leaves, branches, seasonal flowers and pine cones.

For just a few dollars go wild at your local dollar store! These grateful plates come out every single year because they just make me happy. Think outside the box when shopping at a dollar store. Don’t forget the party and home decor section!

What’s the easiest way to decorate for fall?

Use what you already have or borrow from nature! These aqua and white plates are ones I use regularly and together with a few pinecones and faux pumpkins create a fun seasonal table.

Take this same idea and apply it all around your home or wherever you’re wanting to add a touch of autumn. Don’t be afraid to spray paint baby food jars (like those below) and add votives or even glass vases for a personal touch.

I love to mix and match and shake things up in my home! This branch candle centerpiece is a fun addition to a console table and has been used many times in a Thanksgiving centerpiece. A few mini pumpkins, pine cones, acorns and greenery and you’ve got a fall table centerpiece to enjoy all season.

Dollar stores bowls add a pattern and the chalkboard tags tied with jute around each napkin add additional rustic charm. I use these rustic wood chargers over and over throughout the year. I have enough for a table full of guests or setting a smaller more intimate table.
