Are You Drowning?

Do you ever feel like you are drowning?

Losing yourself in your kids or your job or your home or the demands on your life?

For me, since our adoption it has been losing “me” in the craziness and trials of discovering and meeting the needs of my wounded children while trying to maintain and be present for my bio children, husband, elderly parents (now passed away), extended family, friends. Often it has just been too much. I can not be everything to everyone. God doesn’t ask or want me to be what only God himself can be.

How do you set limits? How do you prioritize your day? How do you keep from losing yourself in everyone else?

I believe I am to die daily to my dreams and my desires in order to surrender to God’s plans and desires for my life. That doesn’t mean that all I am is a wife, a mother, a daughter, a friend. I am all those things and MORE. Wrapped up in all those titles are interests and hobbies, joys and trials, experiences and vision.

I am a complicated woman. So are you.  As I work out who I am and what God is doing in my life I am rediscovering and renewing my love and passion for many things.

thrifty living
connecting with other women

But at the center of it all is God. Without that focus it is just “a chasing of the wind.” (Eccl. 1:14)

I am content in this life God has given me.
 It is a gift.
Each day is a precious package to be unwrapped and savored and enjoyed.
I hope you will join me for the journey.

  1. Wow. I neded that. Feel like that post was meant for me.

  2. Was drowning for years… much better these days. All so true! So hard to set those limits and boundaries when you’re in the thick of it.

  3. I absolutely adore you Marty!–I LOVE this and your writing!!! 🙂 Thank you for sharing this!–My heart has been heavy and I need to take it straight back to Jesus and lay all of this at his feet.–Thank you!!!!! You are amazing!!!! 🙂

  4. Oh how I wish we lived close to each other.

In addition to the fact that both of us are mothering very traumatized children … we have so much else in common, too.

    I love …

    … writing.
    … scrapbooking.
… decorating (we both married painters)
    … thrifty living.
    … connecting with other women.
    … photography.
    … mentoring.

Wow! We are going to have to look you up on our next cross country road trip. 🙂

If we lived closer … we would set aside a weekend every few months to scrapbook and chat all weekend. That’s how I would keep from losing myself in everyone else. I would make time to be with a friend … if I had a friend to spend the weekend with.

    Laurel 🙂
