Resurrection

Heard this song for the first time from a link by another mom and immediately was touched by the lyrics (which follow). For those of us parenting wounded children most of us reach this place of desperation and loss and hopelessness at some time during the journey. My days of deepest despair are vividly burned into my memory and are the reason I try so hard to encourage other moms in the same place.

Nicol sings, “You can take the pieces in Your hand and make me whole again. You have a way of turning winter to spring, make something beautiful out of all this suffering.”

Here’s what I know of her story:

“It started on April 7th, 2008, when Todd Smith (of the group Selah) and his wife Angie welcomed their daughter Audrey Caroline into the world and watched her leave it a mere 2 1/2 hours later. On May 27th, Nicole Sponberg (Todd Smith’s sister) and her husband Greg put their 10-week-old son Luke to bed at the end of a “normal” day. When they went in to check on him a short time later, they found him not breathing. Paramedics were called but they couldn’t resuscitate him. SIDS, which causes about 2,500 deaths per year in the United States, (according to the The American SIDS Institute) was the cause.”

None of us escape heartache and desperation, but there is hope in the One whose ultimate sacrifice led to His resurrection, the ultimate gift. May you be touched and blessed today.

I’m at a loss for words, there’s nothing to say
I sit in silence wondering what led me to this place
How did my heart become so lifeless and cold
Where did the passion go?

When all my efforts seem like chasing wind
I’ve used up all my strength and there’s nothing left to give
I’ve lost the feeling and I’m numb to the core
I can’t fake it anymore.

chorus:
Here I am at the end I’m in need of resurrection
Only You can take this empty shell and raise it from the dead
What I’ve lost to the world what seems far beyond redemption
You can take the pieces in Your hand and make me whole again, again

You speak and all creation falls to its knees
You raise Your hand and calm the waves of the raging sea
You have a way of turning winter to spring
Make something beautiful out of all this suffering

chorus 2:
Here I am once again I’m in need of resurrection
Only You can take this empty shell and raise it from the dead
What I’ve lost to the world what seems far beyond redemption
You can take the pieces in Your hand and make me whole again, again

You have a way of turning winter to spring
Make something beautiful out of all this suffering

chorus
